Prof. Dr. Ishak Aris

Prof. Dr. Ishak Aris is a distinguished professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), where he leads pioneering research across multiple cutting-edge domains. His extensive research portfolio encompasses renewable energy systems, automotive powertrain technologies, vehicular communication networks, power electronics and drive systems, electric vehicle powertrains, wireless charging infrastructure, battery management systems (BMS), intelligent energy-efficient vehicles, artificial intelligence applications, image processing techniques, avionics systems, UAV technologies, advanced sensor systems, robotic platforms, and IoT solutions.

With an outstanding academic record, Prof. Aris has authored more than 400 scholarly publications, including 149 SCI-indexed journal articles, 20 non-SCI journal papers, 240 international conference presentations, and 25 technical standards. His scholarly contributions extend to authoring one comprehensive monograph and seven book chapters. As an innovative researcher, he holds nine granted patents with eight additional patents pending approval, along with five registered copyrights. The significant impact of his work is evidenced by his Scopus H-index of 20 and Google Scholar H-index of 25, demonstrating consistent citation of his research by peers worldwide.

Prof. Aris has successfully secured and managed substantial research funding, serving as principal investigator for 30 major research projects with a combined value exceeding RM30 million (approximately USD6.4 million). His expertise is further recognized through the completion of high-value consultancy projects totaling RM4.5 million (approximately USD0.96 million) for both domestic and international clients. His professional standing is underscored by lifetime membership in two prestigious U.S.-based honor societies: Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society (since 1987) and Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society (since 1988). Additionally, he maintains registered professional engineer status with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM), solidifying his reputation as a leader in both global and regional engineering circles.

Recognized internationally for his groundbreaking work at the intersection of sustainable energy technologies, automotive electrification, and intelligent systems engineering, Prof. Aris continues to drive innovation while mentoring the next generation of engineers and researchers. Fushuan Wen has been a full professor and the director of the Institute of Power Economics and Information in Zhejiang University since 1997, and a full professor in Hainan Institute, Zhejiang University since 2022. He is also the director of Sanya Global Energy Institute, and a visiting principal research scientist in Shenzhen Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Society.

He has been undertaking various teaching, research and visiting appointments in National University of Singapore, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Hong Kong, South China University of Technology, University of New South Wales, Queensland University of Technology, Brunei University of Technology, Technical University of Denmark, Nanyang Technological University, Murdoch University, Tallinn University of Technology, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Australia.

He has published 400+ SCI-indexed papers, 750+ EI-indexed papers, and 870+ Scopus-indexed papers. His publications have been cited for 24000+ times. He has completed and is undertaking more than 200 grants and projects from governmental organizations and industry.

He received several awards both at the national level and provincial level, including the most prestigious National Natural Science Award of China. He has been listed in “Most Cited Chinese Researchers” in 10 consecutive years since 2015 by Elsevier.

He is the editor-in-chief of Energy Conversion and Economics (SPERI, IET, Wiley), the deputy editor-in-chief of Automation of Electric Power Systems, the deputy editor-in-chief of Smart Power & Energy Security, a subject editor in power system economics of IET Generation, Transmission and Distribution. He is also on the editorial boards of more than 10 journals.

He was elected to IEEE Fellow for contributions to fault diagnosis in power grids.
